Congrats to both ladies! I was happy with this final. I wanted a Masha/Vika final, but let’s be honest. It was not scintillating tennis we witnessed. I was expecting a competitive match from both, but Maria never got into the match. As one Julia Goerges said, “shit it happens.” Yes, it does. That doesn’t take anything away from Vika tho. She played fantastic and held her composure. Impressive, actually.
Maria’s speech was very well said, no question. She’s always been eloquent. But I loved Vika’s speech too. It was candid and just so Vika in its awkwardness.
